Friday April 23, 2004 was a beautiful Spring day in Virginia.  All in all very typical of the area at that time of the year.

I was having an ordinary day in the life of a Real Estate Agent.  I had a 3:00 PM settlement at the other end of the country and had finished my office work by late morning.  My Mom and Dad still lived in the same house where I grew up.  So I decided to stop by a local Italian restaurant to pick up some lunch for us to share at their home as we’d done many times.

Then it occured to me that a friend of mine had left a purchase proposal and subdivision drawing for me to pick up at his house.  It wasn’t far away and I knew I could swing by and pick it up and still have plenty of time to pick up the Italian meal to share with Mom and Dad.  ( I knew I had to pick up this information from my friend for weeks but something kept getting in the way, why that day did it work out to swing by?)

When I got to my friend’s house he wasn’t home yet and I was greeted at the door by his wife, who I’d also known for years.  What I also knew about her was that you never get away with “Hello” without a visit of some time.

Eventually I managed to leave with the papers to review only to now realize that, due to our visit, I didn’t have time to get the Italian meal and make it to settlement.  I was hungry and knew I needed to eat prior to settlement.  I did, however, want to share lunch at Mom and Dad’s, as it was always nice and they were in their 80’s and they got to eat something a little different.

Right near my friends house is a dive Taco joint that my friends and I used to visit growing up that I hadn’t been to in years. (EL Taco)  I remembered the delight of the crunch of the Taco shell and the wonderful flavor of the Mexican beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomato as it filled your mouth.  A taste that I’d never found in a Mexican restaurant, even when I lived in Texas.  You also could get your to go order in a flash which now had become crucial due to my newly created time crunch, also what a surprise for Mom and Dad!!!   To be Continued…..
